HOW TO: Travel on a Dime
Hello and welcome to my second blog post! This one will be about tips and tricks on how to travel on a budget! Considering I am a starving college student, learning how to save money is crucial – though I will say I have yet to master that skill.
I have seen multiple times that traveling on a budget is very much possible however many people are not familiar with these tips. A life goal of mine is to travel to as many places as possible but never figured I would be able to due to financial reasons. But that is no longer an excuse!
I figure this information will be very beneficial to know for myself and to share! So, without further ado here are tips and tricks I have learned from a variety of sources on how to travel on a dime.
1. Use the sharing economy (source: https://www.nomadicmatt.com/travel-blogs/the-ultimate-guide-to-traveling-when-you-have-no-money/)
The sharing economy provides cheaper accommodation, tour guides, rideshare options and meals from local chefs.
2. Use student and discount cards (source: https://www.nomadicmatt.com/travel-blogs/the-ultimate-guide-to-traveling-when-you-have-no-money/)
There are a variety of discounts made exclusively for students considering having money and being student rarely go hand in hand. Many tourist attractions especially will provide discounts for students and young people.
3. Browse hotel sites to find the best deal (source: https://www.ochristine.com/blog/best-ways-to-travel-for-cheap)
Sadly, saving money means 5-star hotels are out of budget. However, 3-star hotels are not and considering I will only be in the hotel to sleep this is not too much of an issue! Researching hotel options to find the cheapest one will help to save a good sum of money while traveling.
4. Visit during the less popular seasons (source: https://www.ochristine.com/blog/best-ways-to-travel-for-cheap)
Typically, during the less popular seasons for many places will be cheaper than during the busier times so it would be very beneficial (for my wallet) to go during the less tourist-y times.
5. Go where your currency could go a long way (source: https://www.livelikeitstheweekend.com/the-cheapest-way-to-travel/)
Doing your research to find which countries have great exchange rates will help to save some pennies.
Those are about all the tips I found to be useful on traveling on a budget. Until next time!
P.S. I will be attaching a photo of me swimming with a sea turtle in Hawaii!
